Introduction

My AS Media Coursework is an opening sequence of a new Thriller film with clear distinctive titles and story-plot whereby it has to meet the maximum of two minutes or possibly any duration before a minute and thirty seconds. The reason why I chose a thriller film is there are many conventions that can be recreated which can be made original as well as the various amounts of emotions that are enforced on the audience thus the ending of the opening sequence can be made memorable, which leaves the audience wanting to know what is going to happen. In order for this to be initiated, I will start off by doing thorough research into numerous Thriller trailers and and watching the actual movies to fully understand what are the typical codes and conventions entrenched in all Thriller films. I will then research the purposes and functions of trailers as well as analysing five varied and recent thriller films in depth. When it comes to my own trailer I will be a group format where we will plan a storyboard, shot list, character profile and will eventually go into filming. In order to succeed with this task we will have to incorporate our in-depth knowledge of typical code and conventions of Thriller films as well as our own personal ideas of the opening sequence. This will be achieved successfully through the team co-operation and the ability to work consistently.

The trailers of 'The Uninvited' and 'Quarantine' is what my group has chosen to be the basis of our thriller opening sequence which will help us develop the originality of the Thriller film opening sequence. We hope to use the montage of shots, the build up of the story plot as well as the lightning and sound that help connotes different particular emotions in the film 'The Uninvited'. As with 'Quarantine', we hope to use handheld camera movements, the camera shots and the transitions between intense moments as well as harmonious, disruption-free(links to Propps' theory as most movies start with a equilibrium where there is no disruption to the norm of the atmosphere of the characters) scenes.

The realistic look and continuity of our Thriller opening sequence will be ensured to be the best through deep preparation and ensuring everything that is shown in this blog helps to develop a gripping, suspenseful and successful media project.
